Point 3: La Farga

The building known as the Farga del Roquer was built in 1848 to house a Copper Forge, which used the power of water to turn old copper utensils into iron. The forge operated until 1878 and after its initial use, the hydraulic system with the lock, irrigation, pond and waterfall was used to operate a leather tannery, a wood lathe, a sawmill and finally the coach bodies. The coach factory closed for good at the beginning of the 1970s and remained abandoned until the end of the 2000s.

Currently, the building and the hydraulic system have been restored and the Farga del Roquer houses the Riera d'Arbúcies Interpretation Centre, where the pre-industrial and industrial uses of the water in the stream are explained. You can visit it and enjoy the audiovisual The Memory of Water on the first and third Sunday of each month.
